| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Legacy of Valor, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, |

| 6 | 7 | | and the American GI Forum Paso Del Norte Chapter are commemorating |

| 7 | 8 | | the official 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War in 2015; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Although conflict in Southeast Asia stretched back |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | decades, the United States ground war in Vietnam dates to March |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | 1965, with the landing of 3,500 marines at Da Nang; nearly 200,000 |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | American troops were stationed in Vietnam before the year was over; |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Almost 3 million men and women of the U.S. military |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | served in some capacity during the Vietnam War; more than 58,000 |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | perished, among them over 3,400 Texans, and the suffering of the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | dead and wounded, and of their loved ones, continues to |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | reverberate; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The war proved long and controversial, but |

| 19 | 20 | | courageous members of the military persevered, and they |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | demonstrated enormous valor and patriotism during one of the most |

| 21 | 22 | | challenging chapters of our nation's history; Americans owe a |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | lasting debt of gratitude to these men and women, and the 50th |

| 23 | 24 | | anniversary of the Vietnam War provides a solemn opportunity to |

| 24 | 25 | | honor their immeasurable sacrifice; now, therefore, be it |

| 25 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
