45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The Ysleta Independent School District in El Paso is
67 celebrating the 100th anniversary of its founding in 2015; and
78 WHEREAS, The origins of the district can be traced back to
89 1915, when voters approved a $17,000 bond measure to build a school
910 on the corner of Alameda Avenue and Harris Street; two years later,
1011 Ysleta Elementary School opened its doors to elementary and
1112 secondary students from the village of Ysleta; and
1213 WHEREAS, In 1923, the San Jose, Texico, and Ysleta school
1314 districts combined to form the Ysleta Common School District, and a
1415 $30,000 bond measure was passed to fund the construction of a second
1516 school; the district was renamed the Ysleta Independent School
1617 District in 1937, and at the time it served a student population of
1718 2,000 at five campuses, including Ysleta High School; and
1819 WHEREAS, Today the third-largest school district in the city
1920 of El Paso, Ysleta ISD encompasses 7 high schools, 11 middle
2021 schools, 37 elementary schools, 3 prekindergarten centers, and 6
2122 special campuses, which together provide a supportive and
2223 innovative learning environment to more than 42,500 students; along
2324 with its growth in enrollment, the district has seen considerable
2425 progress in student achievement, and 10 of its campuses have been
2526 designated as National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department
2627 of Education; and
2728 WHEREAS, Although the community has experienced a panorama of
2829 change over the past century, Ysleta ISD has remained steadfast in
2930 its commitment to high-quality public education, and this milestone
3031 is a fitting occasion to recognize the district's proud history and
3132 legacy of excellence; now, therefore, be it
3233 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3334 Legislature hereby commemorate the centennial of the Ysleta
3435 Independent School District and extend to its students, faculty,
3536 and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it
3637 further
3738 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3839 prepared for the district as an expression of high regard by the
3940 Texas House of Representatives.
