| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Ysleta Independent School District in El Paso is |

| 6 | 7 | | celebrating the 100th anniversary of its founding in 2015; and |
|---|
| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The origins of the district can be traced back to |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | 1915, when voters approved a $17,000 bond measure to build a school |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | on the corner of Alameda Avenue and Harris Street; two years later, |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Ysleta Elementary School opened its doors to elementary and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | secondary students from the village of Ysleta; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, In 1923, the San Jose, Texico, and Ysleta school |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | districts combined to form the Ysleta Common School District, and a |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | $30,000 bond measure was passed to fund the construction of a second |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | school; the district was renamed the Ysleta Independent School |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | District in 1937, and at the time it served a student population of |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | 2,000 at five campuses, including Ysleta High School; and |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Today the third-largest school district in the city |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | of El Paso, Ysleta ISD encompasses 7 high schools, 11 middle |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | schools, 37 elementary schools, 3 prekindergarten centers, and 6 |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | special campuses, which together provide a supportive and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | innovative learning environment to more than 42,500 students; along |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | with its growth in enrollment, the district has seen considerable |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | progress in student achievement, and 10 of its campuses have been |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | designated as National Blue Ribbon Schools by the U.S. Department |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | of Education; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Although the community has experienced a panorama of |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | change over the past century, Ysleta ISD has remained steadfast in |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | its commitment to high-quality public education, and this milestone |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | is a fitting occasion to recognize the district's proud history and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | legacy of excellence; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the centennial of the Ysleta |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | Independent School District and extend to its students, faculty, |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | and staff sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it |
