| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Corpus Christi lost an esteemed community leader |

| 6 | 7 | | with the passing of Donelda Daub Sluyter on April 3, 2015, at the |

| 7 | 8 | | age of 74; and |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born in Alberta, Canada, on June 1, 1942, the former |

| 9 | 10 | | Doni Daub grew up in Calgary and Lethbridge; she moved to Tulsa, |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | Oklahoma, to attend college, and there she met her future husband, |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | Dr. Gary V. Sluyter, with whom she would have a beloved son, |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Michael; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Sluyter became a naturalized citizen in 1969, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | while living in Austin, and she completed her bachelor's degree in |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | business administration two years later; after residing in Houston, |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | she moved with her family to Corpus Christi; and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Early in her career, Ms. Sluyter worked for the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Penneco Oil Company; she later established her own CPA firm, and she |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | owned a boutique, Bolero's, and a second shop in Rockport; |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | subsequently, she was employed by other CPA accounting firms before |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | starting a successful solo practice from her home; in recognition |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | of her professional accomplishments, she received a Y Women in |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Careers Award from the YWCA; and |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Committed to the betterment of her community, |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | Ms. Sluyter served as president of the Corpus Christi Branch of the |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | YWCA, and she chaired its finance committee and its Women in Careers |

| 27 | 28 | | Awards event; a founding board member of the Tuloso-Midway ISD |

| 28 | 29 | | Education Foundation, she served as its treasurer for 10 years, and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | she also was a member of the boards of the Corpus Christi Women's |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | Shelter and the Corpus Christi Chamber Music Society; moreover, she |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | was president of the local branch of the American Association of |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | University Women (AAUW) and chaired its Outreach Committee, which |

| 33 | 34 | | provided assistance to high school students; she gave generously to |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | numerous causes, and she was especially dedicated to helping |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | animals; and |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Sluyter had many talents, and she crafted |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | beautiful artworks as an active member of the Hericane Stampers; an |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | avid reader, she belonged to both the Corpus Christi Literary |
|---|
| 39 | 40 | | Reading Series and an AAUW book club; she loved to travel and to |
|---|
| 40 | 41 | | entertain, and she was a charming and gracious hostess; for a number |
|---|
| 41 | 42 | | of years, she met monthly with a group known as the Goddesses to |
|---|
| 42 | 43 | | celebrate birthdays and other occasions; and |
|---|
| 43 | 44 | | WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to her family and her community, Doni |
|---|
| 44 | 45 | | Sluyter made a meaningful difference in the lives of her loved ones |
|---|
| 45 | 46 | | and fellow citizens alike, and her contributions will be fondly |
|---|
| 46 | 47 | | remembered for years to come; now, therefore, be it |

| 47 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 48 | 49 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Donelda Daub |

| 49 | 50 | | Sluyter and extend sincere condolences to her loved ones: to her |

| 50 | 51 | | son, Michael Sluyter, and his wife, Shalla; to her granddaughter, |

| 51 | 52 | | Allison Faria; to her sisters, Mary Stubbs and Michelle Low; to her |
