5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |

6 | 7 | | death of Barbara Laine Brunner of Banquete on April 6, 2015, at the |

7 | 8 | | age of 84; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The former Barbara French was born in Robstown on |
---|
9 | 10 | | November 13, 1930, to John James French and Lenna Lee French |
---|
10 | 11 | | Bengtson; after graduating from Robstown High School, she earned a |
---|
11 | 12 | | bachelor's degree in elementary education from Texas College of |
---|
12 | 13 | | Arts and Industries, and in 1951, she began teaching at De Zavala |
---|
13 | 14 | | School in Corpus Christi; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Ms. French was joined in matrimony to Richard |
---|
15 | 16 | | E. Brunner in 1952, and they shared more than six decades together; |
---|
16 | 17 | | they were blessed with four children, Richard, James, John, and |
---|
17 | 18 | | Robbe, and their family later grew to include a granddaughter and a |
---|
18 | 19 | | great-granddaughter; and |
---|
19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, After raising her children, Mrs. Brunner resumed |
---|
20 | 21 | | her career, teaching third and fourth grades at Banquete Elementary |
---|
21 | 22 | | School for 25 years, until her retirement; and |
---|
22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Brunner was active in the Daughters of the |
---|
23 | 24 | | American Revolution, and she served on the board of the Robstown |
---|
24 | 25 | | Area Historical Association; she also maintained her friendships |
---|
25 | 26 | | with her Delta Theta sorority sisters throughout her life; and |
---|
26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, A skilled cook and baker, Mrs. Brunner shared her |
---|
27 | 28 | | famous buttermilk pies and banana bread with friends and loved ones |
---|
28 | 29 | | and put together a cookbook of her favorite recipes; she also |
---|
29 | 30 | | delighted in creating floral arrangements, decorating her home for |
---|
30 | 31 | | the holidays, and shopping for antiques with friends; and |
---|
31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Barbara Brunner |
---|
32 | 33 | | will long remember the way she touched their lives with her warmth |
---|
33 | 34 | | and generosity, and she will forever hold a treasured place in their |
---|
34 | 35 | | hearts; now, therefore, be it |
---|
35 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

36 | 37 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Barbara Laine |
