| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1965 by Connie and Alvin Davis, this |

| 10 | 11 | | American-owned boutique in South Dallas, attracting |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | fashion-forward customers from throughout the area with its |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | remarkable selection; the store also staged fashion shows and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | offered classes in fashion etiquette and techniques, helping to |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | build self-esteem and confidence among the community's young |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | people; and |

| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In 1989, Davis Apparel changed its business plan and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | began to market uniforms to major companies in the hospitality, |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | public safety, medical, and manufacturing industries; by 1998, the |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | shop was recognized as a national leader in the distribution of |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | professional uniforms; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, Davis Apparel has provided |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | opportunities and mentorship for many young people in the |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | community; several of the individuals who attended fashion classes |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | in the shop's early years went on to become professional models, and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | in recent years, the store has regularly sponsored interns from |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Paul Quinn College; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Davis Apparel and its founders have been honored on |

| 28 | 29 | | many occasions; Mrs. Davis was named Woman of the Year by the Pylon |

| 29 | 30 | | Business Club in 1977, and she received the Quest for Success Award |

| 30 | 31 | | from the Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce in 1986 and the Summit |

| 31 | 32 | | Award from the African American Women Entrepreneurs in 1997; the |

| 32 | 33 | | shop has received recognition from the Minority Business |
