| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The H-E-B chain of grocery stores is marking a |

| 6 | 7 | | significant milestone in 2015 with the celebration of its 110th |

| 7 | 8 | | anniversary, and this occasion provides a fitting opportunity to |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | recognize the company's contributions to Corpus Christi and other |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | cities in Texas; and |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Founded in Kerrville in 1905, H-E-B began expanding |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | its operations throughout the 1920s, and Corpus Christi was the |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | largest city to have an H-E-B store when the company opened its |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | first location there in 1931; today, the city is home to 10 stores, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | including two H-E-B Plus facilities; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, A good corporate citizen in the communities it |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | serves, H-E-B supports a variety of public and charitable programs; |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | last year, the company donated approximately 29 million pounds of |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | food and nonperishable items to food banks in Texas and Mexico; |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | furthermore, the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards program gives |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | more than $740,000 annually to deserving educators and school |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | districts; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, H-E-B has received the Texas Governor's Award for |

| 23 | 24 | | Environmental Excellence three times in recognition of |

| 24 | 25 | | company-wide efforts to promote conservation and efficiency; in |

| 25 | 26 | | 2010, Progressive Grocer magazine named H-E-B the Retailer of the |

| 26 | 27 | | Year for its myriad achievements in the industry and for its |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | significant community involvement; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Businesses that give back to the community and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | contribute to the local economy are important components of a |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | prosperous future, and H-E-B is deserving of recognition for the |

| 31 | 32 | | positive role it plays in Corpus Christi and throughout the Lone |

| 32 | 33 | | Star State; now, therefore, be it |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby honor the H-E-B chain of grocery stores for its |

| 36 | 37 | | and its employees sincere best wishes for a memorable 110th |
