| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Ronald McDonald House Charities of Corpus Christi is |

| 6 | 7 | | celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2015, and this occasion |

| 7 | 8 | | presents a fitting opportunity to recognize the organization's |

| 8 | 9 | | important work; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1990, the Corpus Christi Ronald |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | McDonald House provides assistance to families with critically ill |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | or injured children; it has served as a temporary home for more than |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | 22,000 families over the years, allowing parents and siblings who |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | live more than 50 miles away to stay close to a child receiving |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | treatment at a nearby hospital; by keeping families together, the |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | house supports the healing process and improves the hospital |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | experience for young patients; additionally, parents and siblings |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | gain strength and stability by connecting with other residents who |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | are facing similar circumstances; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The Ronald McDonald House offers 25 private bedrooms |

| 20 | 21 | | that can accommodate up to four people, and volunteers and staff |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | provide scheduled transportation to and from hospitals in the |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | immediate area; indoor and outdoor play areas are available for |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | children of all ages, and special events are scheduled for the |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | benefit of residents; and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, The facility is financed through donations and a |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | variety of charitable events, such as Casa de Amor and the Day of |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Change; residents pay a small fee to help offset costs and give back |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | to the house by taking part in volunteer efforts; individuals and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | community groups also contribute in various ways, including through |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | the preparation of home-cooked meals for the families; and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, For a quarter-century, the Ronald McDonald House of |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | Corpus Christi has fostered a welcoming and supportive environment |

| 33 | 34 | | for the loved ones of sick or injured children, and in so doing, it |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | has enriched the lives of countless families in the Lone Star State; |

| 36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 37 | 38 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 25th anniversary of Ronald |

| 39 | 40 | | organization's staff and volunteers sincere best wishes for the |
