| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, St. Anthony School in Robstown is commemorating the |

| 6 | 7 | | 100th anniversary of its founding with a celebration in 2016; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1916 by the Missionary Sisters of the |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | Most Pure Virgin Mary, St. Anthony School initially served 20 |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | students who were the children of Mexican migrant farmworkers; as |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | the Robstown community changed over the years, so did the school, |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | which constructed a new facility in the mid-1960s; by 1997, the |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | school had expanded to include programs for prekindergarten through |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | the eighth grade; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Today St. Anthony School continues to serve a |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | predominately Hispanic student population; in addition to teaching |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | the traditional subjects, the school uses computer technology to |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | enhance learning and to equip students with the skills needed to |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | succeed; with the support of devoted alumni, families, and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | teachers, the school remains a source of estimable faith-based |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | instruction and inspiration; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, For a century, St. Anthony School has provided a |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | number of young Texans with a strong educational foundation, and it |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | is indeed fitting to recognize the school at this point in its rich |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | history; now, therefore, be it |

| 25 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 26 | 27 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 100th anniversary of |

| 27 | 28 | | St. Anthony School in Robstown and extend to its administrators, |

| 28 | 29 | | faculty, staff, and students sincere best wishes for the future; |
