9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Deputy Sheriff Downs was working at a dance when he |

10 | 11 | | confronted an intoxicated man who was causing a disturbance; the |

11 | 12 | | deputy walked away after talking to him, and the man shot him with a |

12 | 13 | | handgun, wounding him fatally; 23 years old at the time of his |

13 | 14 | | passing, Deputy Sheriff Downs was survived by his wife; and |

14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Our state and nation benefit immeasurably from the |

15 | 16 | | courage and commitment of law enforcement professionals such as |

16 | 17 | | Deputy Sheriff Alexander Stevens Downs Jr., who willingly place |

17 | 18 | | themselves in harm's way each day to safeguard the lives and |

18 | 19 | | property of their fellow citizens; now, therefore, be it |

19 | 20 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
