5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Officer James Saavedra of the Port of Corpus Christi |

6 | 7 | | Police Department lost his life in the line of duty on December 19, |

7 | 8 | | 2007, and his service will not soon be forgotten; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, On that day, Officer Saavedra was hit by friendly |

9 | 10 | | fire at the department's shooting range, and he later died at a |
---|
10 | 11 | | local hospital; he had four years of experience in the Port of |
---|
11 | 12 | | Corpus Christi department and had previously served in the Corpus |
---|
12 | 13 | | Christi Independent School District Police Department and the |
---|
13 | 14 | | Nueces County Constable's Office; and |
---|
14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, At the time of his death at age 40, Officer Saavedra |
---|
15 | 16 | | was survived by his wife, Rachel, a son, two daughters, a brother, |
---|
16 | 17 | | and his parents; and |
---|
17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Our state and nation benefit immeasurably from the |

18 | 19 | | courage and commitment of law enforcement professionals such as |

19 | 20 | | James Saavedra, who willingly place themselves in harm's way each |

20 | 21 | | day to safeguard the lives and property of their fellow citizens; |

22 | 23 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

23 | 24 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life and exemplary service of |
