H.R. No. 2227 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Claudia Ordaz has ably served the people of El Paso as a member of the city council; and WHEREAS, In August 2014, Ms. Ordaz became the youngest member on the council at the age of 28, when she was elected to fulfill an uncompleted term; she represents District 6, which includes Mission Valley and east El Paso, where she grew up; and WHEREAS, Ms. Ordaz was previously employed as a press secretary in the office of former United States congressman Silvestre Reyes and as communications director for former Texas state senator Eliot Shapleigh; while attending The University of Texas at El Paso, she served as a senator-at-large in the Student Government Association and as president of University Democrats, and she led efforts to increase voter participation among her fellow students; and WHEREAS, Dedicated to her community, Ms. Ordaz works with the Junior League of El Paso, through which she chaired a campaign against bullying that reached more than 3,000 children in the Socorro and Canutillo Independent School Districts; in recognition of this accomplishment, she was chosen as the organization's Active Member of the Year; through the years, she has also been honored as the 2012 Young El Pasoan of the Year by the YWCA and as one of "30 Under 30" El Pasoans making a positive impact by the City Magazine; and WHEREAS, Claudia Ordaz has demonstrated a notable commitment to public service, and she is setting an example of civic engagement to which others may aspire; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby honor Claudia Ordaz for her service on the El Paso City Council and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Ordaz as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
