45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Don Reynolds of Bowie was honored with induction
67 into the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame in Fort Worth in April
78 2015; and
89 WHEREAS, Mr. Reynolds grew up competing in roping and trick
910 riding events with his father on rodeo circuits in the United States
1011 and Canada; he was inspired to become an actor at an early age,
1112 after a meeting with acclaimed singer and cowboy actor Roy Rogers;
1213 Mr. Reynolds first appeared onscreen with his idol in the 1944 film
1314 The Yellow Rose of Texas, and he went on to work on several motion
1415 pictures with other famed Western actors of the era, including Gene
1516 Autry and Eddie Dean; moreover, he portrayed "Little Beaver" in the
1617 Red Ryder series of films, and he also appeared in The Adventures of
1718 Kit Carson television show; and
1819 WHEREAS, Leaving his career as an actor behind, this
1920 multitalented gentleman continued to work in the film industry as
2021 an animal trainer; he supervised and directed animals on the sets of
2122 countless Hollywood movies over the course of more than a
2223 half-century, traveling the world and working on such pictures and
2324 series as Forrest Gump, The Three Kings, and The Sopranos; in
2425 addition, he was responsible for the training of "Shadowfax," the
2526 mythical horse from the popular Lord of the Rings trilogy; and
2627 WHEREAS, Mr. Reynolds retired from show business for good in
2728 2002 and subsequently moved to Bowie with his wife, Ellen; today, he
2829 enjoys traveling the country and spending time with his family; and
2930 WHEREAS, The Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame honors those men
3031 and women who exemplify the individualism and independence of the
3132 Western cowboy, and Don Reynolds is indeed deserving of this
3233 prestigious recognition; now, therefore, be it
3334 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3435 Legislature hereby congratulate Don Reynolds on his induction into
3536 the Texas Rodeo Cowboy Hall of Fame and extend to him sincere best
3637 wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
3738 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3839 prepared for Mr. Reynolds as an expression of high regard by the
3940 Texas House of Representatives.
