| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to |

| 7 | 8 | | contestants of the 2015 Scholarship Pageant to the State Capitol on |

| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The pageant has been sponsored by LULAC Council |

| 10 | 11 | | No. 1 since 1959; through the generous support of the South Texas |

| 11 | 12 | | business community, LULAC has distributed more than $1.5 million in |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | scholarship funds to students throughout the Coastal Bend area; and |

| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The competition's contestants are judged in six |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | categories: beauty, personality, poise, costume, dance routine, |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | and onstage question, and the event, which is designed to pay |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | tribute to the heritage of Mexican American citizens, features |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | music, dance, and dress that typify various regions south of the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | border; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Joining last year's winner, reigning queen Valerie |

| 20 | 21 | | Rangel, the talented individuals participating in this year's |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | competition are Justine Garza, Kathryn Flores, Isabella Herrero, |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Brianna Garcia, and Miranda Jo Jaimes; and |

| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Through their involvement, these contestants have |

| 24 | 25 | | demonstrated great cultural pride and community spirit, and they |

| 25 | 26 | | may indeed look forward to a bright and promising future; now, |

| 27 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
