6 | 7 | | temper the profound sadness felt at the passing of Fongee Wong of |

7 | 8 | | Houston on January 7, 2015, at the age of 81; and |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Born on December 28, 1933, in Grady, Arkansas, |

9 | 10 | | Fongee Wong grew up in a large family and graduated from Gould High |
---|
10 | 11 | | School before earning a bachelor's degree in nursing from The |
---|
11 | 12 | | University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston; she later received |
---|
12 | 13 | | her master's in nursing from the University of Maryland, and she |
---|
13 | 14 | | went on to complete her doctorate in public health from The |
---|
14 | 15 | | University of Texas Health Science Center; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Wong enjoyed a successful career as a professor |
---|
16 | 17 | | at Texas Woman's University, and she frequently took her students |
---|
17 | 18 | | to needy communities in the Houston area to educate them on public |
---|
18 | 19 | | health issues; she later worked as a real estate broker, founding |
---|
19 | 20 | | her own firm, Bee Hive Realty; and |
---|
20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, A woman of deep faith, Mrs. Wong was a valued |
---|
21 | 22 | | congregant of Second Baptist Church for nearly three decades; she |
---|
22 | 23 | | gave freely of her time and talents in service to her church, |
---|
23 | 24 | | volunteering as a member of the bulletin brigade, Bible Study |
---|
24 | 25 | | Fellowship, and Gospel Truth Bible Study, and participating in |
---|
25 | 26 | | activities at Second Baptist's Family Life Center; and |
---|
26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Mrs. Wong shared 35 rewarding years with her |
---|
27 | 28 | | husband, Kent, whom she married in 1980; the couple were the devoted |
---|
28 | 29 | | parents of three children, Kent, Priscilla, and Grace, and with the |
---|
29 | 30 | | passing years, their family grew to include three grandchildren; |

30 | 31 | | the beloved matriarch of a large extended family, she was |
---|
31 | 32 | | affectionately known as "Aunt Gee" to her loved ones; and |
---|
32 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Fongee Wong |
---|
33 | 34 | | will remember the way she touched their lives with her warmth, |
---|
34 | 35 | | kindness, and compassion, and she will forever hold a treasured |
---|
35 | 36 | | place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |

36 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

37 | 38 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Fongee Wong and |
