45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The certain knowledge of a life well lived may
67 temper the profound sadness felt at the passing of Fongee Wong of
78 Houston on January 7, 2015, at the age of 81; and
89 WHEREAS, Born on December 28, 1933, in Grady, Arkansas,
910 Fongee Wong grew up in a large family and graduated from Gould High
1011 School before earning a bachelor's degree in nursing from The
1112 University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston; she later received
1213 her master's in nursing from the University of Maryland, and she
1314 went on to complete her doctorate in public health from The
1415 University of Texas Health Science Center; and
1516 WHEREAS, Mrs. Wong enjoyed a successful career as a professor
1617 at Texas Woman's University, and she frequently took her students
1718 to needy communities in the Houston area to educate them on public
1819 health issues; she later worked as a real estate broker, founding
1920 her own firm, Bee Hive Realty; and
2021 WHEREAS, A woman of deep faith, Mrs. Wong was a valued
2122 congregant of Second Baptist Church for nearly three decades; she
2223 gave freely of her time and talents in service to her church,
2324 volunteering as a member of the bulletin brigade, Bible Study
2425 Fellowship, and Gospel Truth Bible Study, and participating in
2526 activities at Second Baptist's Family Life Center; and
2627 WHEREAS, Mrs. Wong shared 35 rewarding years with her
2728 husband, Kent, whom she married in 1980; the couple were the devoted
2829 parents of three children, Kent, Priscilla, and Grace, and with the
2930 passing years, their family grew to include three grandchildren;
3031 the beloved matriarch of a large extended family, she was
3132 affectionately known as "Aunt Gee" to her loved ones; and
3233 WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Fongee Wong
3334 will remember the way she touched their lives with her warmth,
3435 kindness, and compassion, and she will forever hold a treasured
3536 place in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
3637 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3738 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Fongee Wong and
3839 extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
3940 husband, Kent Wong; to her son, Kent Wong, and his wife, Carol; to
4041 her daughters, Priscilla Hood and her husband, Lee, and Grace Wong;
4142 to her grandchildren, Kayla, Bryce, and Blake Hood; to her sisters,
4243 May, Mary, and Julia; to her brothers, Douglas and Clinton; and to
4344 her many other relatives and friends; and, be it further
4445 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4546 prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
4647 Representatives adjourns on this day, it do so in memory of Fongee
4748 Wong.
