5	6		WHEREAS, A full and generous life drew to a close on August
6	7		14, 2013, with the death of Jean Mills Worsham of Houston at the age
7	8		of 91; and
8	9		WHEREAS, Jean Worsham was born in Houston on December 5,
9	10		1921, to Annie Lee Mills Worsham and Jesse Lee Worsham Sr.; he was a
10	11		member of the second graduating class at Mirabeau B. Lamar High
11	12		School, and he went on to earn a bachelor's degree at The University
12	13		of Texas at Austin, where he was president of Phi Delta Theta
13	14		fraternity; his leadership of the fraternity's intramural football
14	15		team earned him the lifelong nickname of "Coach"; and
15	16		WHEREAS, Answering his nation's call to duty during World War
16	17		II, Mr. Worsham served with the U.S. Army Air Forces in Japan;
17	18		after the war, he earned a law degree at The University of Texas and
18	19		won election to the legal fraternity Phi Delta Phi; and
19	20		WHEREAS, Over the course of an exemplary career as a lawyer in
20	21		Houston, Mr. Worsham served as an assistant district attorney,
21	22		worked in private practice, and spent 25 years in the legal
22	23		department of Shell Oil; he was a member of the State Bar of Texas
23	24		and the Houston Bar Association, which honored him for his five
24	25		decades in the legal profession; and
25	26		WHEREAS, Mr. Worsham gave back to his community with his
26	27		service on the boards of the Methodist Hospital and Lon Morris
27	28		College; an active member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, he
28	29		served on its administrative board and taught Sunday school; he
29	30		remained devoted to The University of Texas throughout his life and
30	31		was a member of the Littlefield Society, the Chancellor's Council,
31	32		the President's Associates, and the Longhorn Foundation, as well as
32	33		an avid fan of Longhorn sports; for more than 50 years, he was a
33	34		member of the Houston Country Club, where he played tennis into his
34	35		early 80s; he also loved books, travel, and music, especially big
35	36		band and Dixieland jazz; and
36	37		WHEREAS, Mr. Worsham shared 60 years with his wife, the
37	38		former Roberta Murfee, and they were the parents of three sons,
38	39		Robert Mills Worsham, James Leslie Worsham, and the late John
39	40		Murfee Worsham; with the passing years, his family grew to include
40	41		five grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Danrad"; and
41	42		WHEREAS, A devoted family man and an engaged member of his
42	43		community, Jean Worsham leaves behind a legacy that will continue
43	44		to inspire all those who knew and loved him; now, therefore, be it
44	45		RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
45	46		Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jean Mills Worsham and
46	47		extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his
47	48		wife, Roberta Murfee Worsham; to his sons, Robert Mills Worsham Sr.
48	49		and his wife, Roxanne, and James Leslie Worsham and his wife,
49	50		Leslie; to his grandchildren, Kathryn Anne Worsham, Jesse Lee
50	51		Worsham, Robert Mills Worsham Jr., Samuel Price Worsham, and Asha
51	52		Elizabeth Worsham; to his brother, John William Worsham, and his
52	53		wife, Arline; to his nieces, Gail Worsham Pitt, Cynthia Worsham
53	54		Bowers, and Anna Larson Worsham; and to his other relatives and
54	55		friends; and, be it further
55	56		RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
56	57		prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
57	58		Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jean
58	59		Worsham.
