5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Zachary Hodges marked 20 years as president of |

6 | 7 | | Houston Community College Northwest on May 1, 2014; and |

7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, An admired educator with more than 40 years of |

8 | 9 | | experience, Dr. Hodges has served as acting vice chancellor of |
---|
9 | 10 | | academic affairs for Houston Community College in addition to |
---|
10 | 11 | | fulfilling his duties as president; he has worked tirelessly to |
---|
11 | 12 | | enhance the institution's brand while collaborating with local |
---|
12 | 13 | | school districts, supporting underserved groups in the area, and |
---|
13 | 14 | | engaging the wider community in higher education issues; moreover, |
---|
14 | 15 | | he has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to workforce |
---|
15 | 16 | | development; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Hodges guided the successful effort to forge a |
---|
17 | 18 | | partnership with The University of Texas at Tyler; UT-Tyler now |
---|
18 | 19 | | offers junior- and senior-level engineering-degree courses at the |
---|
19 | 20 | | HCC Alief Campus, where students can earn associate degrees in the |
---|
20 | 21 | | subject; in addition, he facilitated a Memorandum of Understanding |
---|
21 | 22 | | with the University of Houston System to develop a university |
---|
22 | 23 | | center for the Katy-West Houston area; and |
---|
23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Over the years, Dr. Hodges has gained recognition as |
---|
24 | 25 | | a strong proponent of entrepreneurship; in 2012, he delivered a |
---|
25 | 26 | | presentation at the National Association for Community College |
---|
26 | 27 | | Entrepreneurship conference, and the following year, he was |
---|
27 | 28 | | selected as the association's Entrepreneurial President of the |
---|
28 | 29 | | Year; he has also earned many accolades for his endeavors in behalf |
---|
29 | 30 | | of economic development, including the Diamond Leadership Award |
---|
30 | 31 | | from the West Houston Leadership Institute, the Pinnacle Award from |
---|
31 | 32 | | the Houston West Chamber of Commerce, and the Citizen of the Year |
---|
32 | 33 | | Award from the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce; and |
---|
33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan has taken leadership roles in |
---|
34 | 35 | | such organizations as the Houston Film Commission, Genesys Works, |
---|
35 | 36 | | the Houston Technology Center, and the Texas Association of |
---|
36 | 37 | | Business, and he has served on commissions sponsored by the |
---|
37 | 38 | | American Council on Education and the American Association of |
---|
38 | 39 | | Community Colleges; he holds a bachelor's degree in history, a |
---|
39 | 40 | | master's degree, and a doctoral degree in counseling from Texas A&M |
---|
40 | 41 | | University-Commerce; and |

41 | 42 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of more than two decades, Zachary |
---|
42 | 43 | | Hodges has contributed to the prosperity and vibrancy of the |

43 | 44 | | Houston area while helping numerous area residents build a strong |
---|
44 | 45 | | foundation for success, and it is indeed fitting to recognize this |
---|
45 | 46 | | milestone in his noteworthy career; now, therefore, be it |

46 | 47 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

47 | 48 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Zachary Hodges on his 20th |

48 | 49 | | anniversary as president of Houston Community College Northwest and |
---|
49 | 50 | | extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |

50 | 51 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
