45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Dr. Zachary Hodges marked 20 years as president of
67 Houston Community College Northwest on May 1, 2014; and
78 WHEREAS, An admired educator with more than 40 years of
89 experience, Dr. Hodges has served as acting vice chancellor of
910 academic affairs for Houston Community College in addition to
1011 fulfilling his duties as president; he has worked tirelessly to
1112 enhance the institution's brand while collaborating with local
1213 school districts, supporting underserved groups in the area, and
1314 engaging the wider community in higher education issues; moreover,
1415 he has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to workforce
1516 development; and
1617 WHEREAS, Dr. Hodges guided the successful effort to forge a
1718 partnership with The University of Texas at Tyler; UT-Tyler now
1819 offers junior- and senior-level engineering-degree courses at the
1920 HCC Alief Campus, where students can earn associate degrees in the
2021 subject; in addition, he facilitated a Memorandum of Understanding
2122 with the University of Houston System to develop a university
2223 center for the Katy-West Houston area; and
2324 WHEREAS, Over the years, Dr. Hodges has gained recognition as
2425 a strong proponent of entrepreneurship; in 2012, he delivered a
2526 presentation at the National Association for Community College
2627 Entrepreneurship conference, and the following year, he was
2728 selected as the association's Entrepreneurial President of the
2829 Year; he has also earned many accolades for his endeavors in behalf
2930 of economic development, including the Diamond Leadership Award
3031 from the West Houston Leadership Institute, the Pinnacle Award from
3132 the Houston West Chamber of Commerce, and the Citizen of the Year
3233 Award from the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce; and
3334 WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan has taken leadership roles in
3435 such organizations as the Houston Film Commission, Genesys Works,
3536 the Houston Technology Center, and the Texas Association of
3637 Business, and he has served on commissions sponsored by the
3738 American Council on Education and the American Association of
3839 Community Colleges; he holds a bachelor's degree in history, a
3940 master's degree, and a doctoral degree in counseling from Texas A&M
4041 University-Commerce; and
4142 WHEREAS, Over the course of more than two decades, Zachary
4243 Hodges has contributed to the prosperity and vibrancy of the
4344 Houston area while helping numerous area residents build a strong
4445 foundation for success, and it is indeed fitting to recognize this
4546 milestone in his noteworthy career; now, therefore, be it
4647 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
4748 Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Zachary Hodges on his 20th
4849 anniversary as president of Houston Community College Northwest and
4950 extend to him sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
5051 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5152 prepared for Dr. Hodges as an expression of high regard by the Texas
5253 House of Representatives.
