| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Duncan Samo, a retired educator at Del Mar College |

| 6 | 7 | | in Corpus Christi, has been named professor emeritus by the |

| 7 | 8 | | college's board of regents; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Emeritus status is conferred on select former |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | faculty members and administrators in recognition of their |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | significant contributions to the educational community; many of |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | these distinguished individuals continue to serve the university |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | during their retirement; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Professor emeritus of medical laboratory |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | technology, Mr. Samo served as chair, program coordinator, and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | administrator of the Department of Allied Health during his 34-year |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | tenure with Del Mar; in addition, he established the medical |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | laboratory technology program and associated clinical |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | affiliations, which provide students with necessary skills and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | credentials for their chosen field as well as with employment |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | opportunities at Coastal Bend hospitals and laboratories; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Samo has further distinguished himself through |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | his involvement with a number of professional organizations; he has |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | attended more than 50 site visits as a site coordinator for the |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences, and |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | he has served the agency as chair, vice chair, and member of its |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Program Review Committee; he has also held memberships with the |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science and the Texas |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Association for Clinical Laboratory Science, which he has also |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | served as president; and |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Through his myriad endeavors in behalf of Del Mar |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | College, Duncan Samo has contributed immeasurably to advancing the |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | mission of that institution, and he is indeed deserving of this |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | prestigious accolade; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Duncan Samo on his designation as |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | professor emeritus at Del Mar College and extend to him sincere best |

| 37 | 38 | | wishes for the future; and, be it further |

| 38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
