| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Maria D. Salinas, retired educator at Del Mar |

| 6 | 7 | | College in Corpus Christi, has been named professor emeritus by the |

| 7 | 8 | | college's board of regents; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Emeritus status is conferred on selected former |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | faculty members and administrators in recognition of their |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | significant contributions to the educational community; many of |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | these distinguished individuals continue to serve the university |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | during their retirement; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Professor emeritus of English, Dr. Salinas joined |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Del Mar College in 1988, and she provided leadership for a number of |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | programs during her 25-year tenure; notably, she served on the |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | Mexican-American Studies Program Committee and coordinated the |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | Puente Del Mar Mentor Program, among others; she also wrote grants |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | to update classroom equipment and purchase books, and she helped |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | initiate the campus-wide Viking Book Club; her exceptional work has |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | earned her a number of honors, including the Excellence in Teaching |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | Award from the National Institute for Staff and Organizational |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Development; and |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Salinas is past president of the Del Mar College |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | Chapter of the Texas Association of Chicanos in Higher Education, |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | and she currently serves as a representative on the organization's |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | state board; in addition, she has been active with the Hispanic |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Women's Network of Texas, the National Association of Developmental |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Education, and the advisory coalition for Texas State |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | Representative Abel Herrero; and |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Through her myriad endeavors in behalf of Del Mar |

| 31 | 32 | | College, Dr. Maria Salinas has contributed immeasurably to |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | advancing the mission of that institution, and she is indeed |
|---|
| 33 | 34 | | deserving of this prestigious accolade; now, therefore, be it |

| 34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 35 | 36 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Maria D. Salinas on her |

| 36 | 37 | | designation as professor emeritus at Del Mar College and extend to |

| 37 | 38 | | her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |

| 38 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
