| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Evelyn Dickerson was inducted into the African |

| 6 | 7 | | American Educators Hall of Fame on April 18, 2015; and |

| 7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The hall of fame is part of the African American |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | Education Archives and History Program, which since its founding in |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | 2002 has focused on the vital role that education has played in the |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | African American experience in Dallas County; the organization |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | preserves important artifacts, documents, visual images, and oral |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | accounts, and its African American Educators Hall of Fame raises |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | public awareness of the significant contributions made by teachers, |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | administrators, librarians, and others; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Dickerson began her career in Terrell in 1963 as |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | a physical education teacher and coach for softball and track and |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | field; over a period of several decades, much of which was spent in |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Dallas public schools, she served as a classroom teacher, advised |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | fellow educators, counseled students, developed curricula, and |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | volunteered with a number of youth-focused organizations; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Among her many achievements, Ms. Dickerson designed |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | and implemented a model education program for inner-city children |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | at the Jimmie Tyler Brashear Early Childhood Development Center; |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | she has further devoted her time and talents to other educational |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | programs and community service projects in the Dallas/Fort Worth |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Metroplex, one of which included leading a literacy project; in |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | addition, this public-spirited woman has spent over two decades as |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | a prominent volunteer leader for the United Negro College Fund; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Through her outstanding accomplishments, Evelyn |

| 30 | 31 | | Dickerson has made a positive difference in the lives of countless |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | Texans, and she may take justifiable pride in this prestigious |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | recognition; now, therefore, be it |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Evelyn Dickerson on her induction |

| 35 | 36 | | into the African American Educators Hall of Fame and extend to her |

| 36 | 37 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
