5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Thalia Matherson was inducted into the African |

6 | 7 | | American Educators Hall of Fame on April 18, 2015; and |

7 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The hall of fame is part of the African American |

8 | 9 | | Education Archives and History Program, which since its founding in |

9 | 10 | | 2002 has focused on the vital role that education has played in the |
---|
10 | 11 | | African American experience in Dallas County; the organization |
---|
11 | 12 | | preserves important artifacts, documents, visual images, and oral |
---|
12 | 13 | | accounts, and its African American Educators Hall of Fame raises |
---|
13 | 14 | | public awareness of the significant contributions made by teachers, |
---|
14 | 15 | | administrators, librarians, and others; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Matherson worked in the Dallas Independent |
---|
16 | 17 | | School District for more than two decades, acting as a teacher, |
---|
17 | 18 | | assistant principal, principal, and district administrator; her |
---|
18 | 19 | | administrative roles included recruiter, facilitator for principal |
---|
19 | 20 | | staff development, and head of the district's principal leadership |
---|
20 | 21 | | and development efforts; furthermore, she was a member of the |
---|
21 | 22 | | Dallas School Administrators Association; and |
---|
22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Following her retirement from Dallas ISD, |

23 | 24 | | Dr. Matherson dedicated her time and talents to such worthy |
---|
24 | 25 | | organizations as Southern Methodist University, Huston-Tillotson |
---|
25 | 26 | | University, the Dallas Retired Teachers Association, the Dallas |
---|
26 | 27 | | Women's Foundation, and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority; she has |

27 | 28 | | served as executive director of the South Central Jurisdiction of |
---|
28 | 29 | | the United Methodist Church and as president of the Trinity chapter |
---|
29 | 30 | | of The Links; and |

30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Through her outstanding accomplishments, Dr. Thalia |

31 | 32 | | Matherson has made a positive difference in the lives of countless |

32 | 33 | | Texans, and she may take justifiable pride in this prestigious |

33 | 34 | | recognition; now, therefore, be it |

34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

35 | 36 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Thalia Matherson on her |

36 | 37 | | induction into the African American Educators Hall of Fame and |

37 | 38 | | extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
