| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Marla D. Chisholm, a retired educator at Del Mar |

| 6 | 7 | | College in Corpus Christi, has been named professor emeritus by the |

|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Emeritus status is conferred on select former |

| 9 | 10 | | faculty members and administrators in recognition of their |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | significant contributions to the educational community; many of |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | these distinguished individuals continue to serve the university |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | during their retirement; and |

| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Professor emeritus of speech, Ms. Chisholm was a |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | member of the faculty from 1987 to 1995, and she returned in 2000 to |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | teach in the Department of Communications, Languages, and Reading; |

| 16 | 17 | | she is the coauthor of Experiences in Public Speaking Activity |

| 17 | 18 | | Book, now in its fourth edition, and "Experiences in Public |

| 18 | 19 | | Speaking," both used in courses at the college today; and |

| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Chisholm is the recipient of numerous honors, |

| 20 | 21 | | among them the 2008 National Communication Association Community |

| 21 | 22 | | College Outstanding Educator Award and the DMC 2011 Aileen |

| 22 | 23 | | Creighton Award for Teaching Excellence; in 2003, she earned a |

| 23 | 24 | | stipend for maintaining the highest retention and success rate in |

| 24 | 25 | | the college's Title V Program; her professional affiliations |

| 25 | 26 | | include the Texas State Communication Association, the Southern |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | States Communication Association, the National Communication |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | Association, and the Texas Community College Teachers' |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | Association; and |

| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Through her myriad endeavors in behalf of Del Mar |

| 30 | 31 | | College, Marla Chisholm has contributed immeasurably to advancing |

| 31 | 32 | | the mission of that institution, and she is indeed deserving of this |

| 32 | 33 | | prestigious accolade; now, therefore, be it |

| 33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Marla D. Chisholm on her |

| 35 | 36 | | designation as professor emeritus at Del Mar College and extend to |
