5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Honorable Carla Garner retired as Sutton County |

6 | 7 | | judge in November 2014, drawing to a close nearly three decades of |

7 | 8 | | outstanding service to her fellow citizens; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, First sworn into office in May 1985, Judge Garner |
---|
9 | 10 | | distinguished herself through her astute leadership as presiding |
---|
10 | 11 | | officer of the Sutton County Commissioners Court; during her |
---|
11 | 12 | | tenure, she played a vital role in the renovation of the county |
---|
12 | 13 | | courthouse and in the construction of the county library, the civic |
---|
13 | 14 | | center, the arena grandstands, and lighting for the baseball field, |
---|
14 | 15 | | among other projects; she also served on the executive committee of |
---|
15 | 16 | | the Concho Valley Council of Governments; and |
---|
16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In addition to her service as a public official, |
---|
17 | 18 | | Judge Garner simultaneously worked as a county emergency medical |
---|
18 | 19 | | technician for 25 years; she has accumulated 23 years' experience |
---|
19 | 20 | | as a state-licensed EMT instructor and examiner, and she has served |
---|
20 | 21 | | on the Texas Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council; in 2001, |
---|
21 | 22 | | she was named EMS Person of the Year by the state health department; |
---|
22 | 23 | | and |
---|
23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan has also served on the advisory |
---|
24 | 25 | | board of the Texas Guardianship Alliance, giving generously of her |
---|
25 | 26 | | time and talents in behalf of adults with intellectual and |
---|
26 | 27 | | developmental disabilities and of the elderly, and she has |
---|
27 | 28 | | supported area youth through her involvement with 4-H, which has |
---|
28 | 29 | | honored her with its Silver Spur Award; and |
---|
29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Judge Carla Garner has made many significant |
---|
30 | 31 | | contributions to the betterment of life in Sutton County, and her |
---|
31 | 32 | | accomplishments will continue to resonate in that county for years |
---|
32 | 33 | | to come; now, therefore, be it |
---|
33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
---|
34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable Carla Garner on her |
---|
35 | 36 | | retirement as Sutton County judge and extend to her sincere best |
---|
36 | 37 | | wishes for the future; and, be it further |
