5		-	WHEREAS, Dr. Ervin D. Seamster Jr., senior pastor at Light of
6		-	the World Church of Christ in Dallas, is serving as Pastor of the
7		-	Day for the Texas House of Representatives on April 29, 2015; and
	6	+	WHEREAS, The Reverend Dr. Ervin D. Seamster Jr., senior
	7	+	pastor at Light of the World Church of Christ in Dallas, is serving
	8	+	as Pastor of the Day for the Texas House of Representatives on April
	9	+	29, 2015; and
8	10		WHEREAS, Ervin Seamster earned a bachelor's degree from
9	11		Southwestern Christian College and a master of divinity degree from
10	12		the Southern Methodist University Perkins School of Theology; he
11	13		later enrolled at the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio,
12	14		where he completed his doctor of ministry degree; and
13	15		WHEREAS, Accepting the call to ministry in 1985, Dr. Seamster
14	16		preached his first sermon the following year; he went on to serve as
15	17		minister of the Marsalis Avenue Church of Christ in Dallas, and in
16	18		1999, he founded the Light of the World Church of Christ; over the
17	19		course of his tenure as senior pastor, he has overseen a dramatic
18	20		growth of the congregation and the development of nearly 25
19	21		ministries; and
20	22		WHEREAS, Dr. Seamster has further distinguished himself
21	23		through his notable career in academia; he joined the faculty of
22	24		Abilene Christian University in 1999 and taught courses in Old
23	25		Testament theology and urban ministry in the 21st century for
24	26		several years; moreover, he earned the distinction of becoming the
25	27		first African American to be appointed as special assistant to the
26	28		school's president, and in that position, he recruited gifted
27	29		scholars of color for the doctoral fellows program for minority
28	30		faculty members; in addition, he is a cofounder of Northwest
29	31		Preparatory School in Houston, and he has served that institution
30	32		as board president and as president emeritus; he has also given
31	33		generously of his time and talents in behalf of Southwestern
32	34		Christian College, raising funds for the school through the Fab
33	35		Five Revival and uniting ministries across the nation through the
34	36		One in Christ Conference; and
35	37		WHEREAS, Dr. Ervin Seamster has inspired many with his
36	38		message of faith, hope, and fellowship, and we are indeed fortunate
37	39		to have him with us today; now, therefore, be it
38	40		RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
39		-	Legislature hereby honor Dr. Ervin D. Seamster Jr. for his service
40		-	as Pastor of the Day and extend to him sincere best wishes for
41		-	continued success with his important work; and, be it further
