No. 2364 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, The Lumberton High School Career and Technology Education welding students distinguished themselves in district and state competitions during the 2014-2015 school year; and WHEREAS, Ably guided by CTE welding instructor Johnny Sitton, Lumberton students learn basic welding and computer design skills to engage them in the study of engineering; to demonstrate their abilities, students participated in a variety of team and individual events as part of the SkillsUSA district and state competitions; and WHEREAS, The CTE welding team composed of Josh Bell, Josh Elpers, Chad Henry, Brennan LaHue, Dustin Moore, Bradley Newman, Pac Nickson, Tray Smelley, and Lathon Stewart built a barbecue pit and trailer that earned a superior rating at the district event, and the squad later scored a perfect 100 at state; Mr. Elpers, Mr. Henry, Mr. LaHue, Mr. Nickson, Mr. Smelley, and Mr. Stewart also achieved perfect scores at both district and state with their eight-seat JAG grill creation; and WHEREAS, The three-welder fabrication team of Dalton Ketchens, Mr. Moore, and Mr. Bell took third place at district, while the team of Mr. Moore, Mr. Bell, and Mr. Smelley went on to compete at state; Mr. LaHue and Mr. Stewart created a plasma cutout of a battle tank and advanced to state, where they achieved a perfect score and a superior rating; and WHEREAS, In individual contests at the district level, Bethany Brooks was the blue ribbon winner for her welding art sculpture of a western lamp, Mr. Ketchens earned first place in the job application process competition, and Mr. Henry won second place in welding applications; and WHEREAS, Through their involvement in the district and state welding competitions, these Lumberton High School students have shown great initiative and talent, and they may indeed reflect with pride on their accomplishments; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the Lumberton High School welding students on their success in district and state competitions and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the students as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
