45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, The Lumberton High School Career and Technology
67 Education welding students distinguished themselves in district
78 and state competitions during the 2014-2015 school year; and
89 WHEREAS, Ably guided by CTE welding instructor Johnny Sitton,
910 Lumberton students learn basic welding and computer design skills
1011 to engage them in the study of engineering; to demonstrate their
1112 abilities, students participated in a variety of team and
1213 individual events as part of the SkillsUSA district and state
1314 competitions; and
1415 WHEREAS, The CTE welding team composed of Josh Bell, Josh
1516 Elpers, Chad Henry, Brennan LaHue, Dustin Moore, Bradley Newman,
1617 Pac Nickson, Tray Smelley, and Lathon Stewart built a barbecue pit
1718 and trailer that earned a superior rating at the district event, and
1819 the squad later scored a perfect 100 at state; Mr. Elpers,
1920 Mr. Henry, Mr. LaHue, Mr. Nickson, Mr. Smelley, and Mr. Stewart
2021 also achieved perfect scores at both district and state with their
2122 eight-seat JAG grill creation; and
2223 WHEREAS, The three-welder fabrication team of Dalton
2324 Ketchens, Mr. Moore, and Mr. Bell took third place at district,
2425 while the team of Mr. Moore, Mr. Bell, and Mr. Smelley went on to
2526 compete at state; Mr. LaHue and Mr. Stewart created a plasma cutout
2627 of a battle tank and advanced to state, where they achieved a
2728 perfect score and a superior rating; and
2829 WHEREAS, In individual contests at the district level,
2930 Bethany Brooks was the blue ribbon winner for her welding art
3031 sculpture of a western lamp, Mr. Ketchens earned first place in the
3132 job application process competition, and Mr. Henry won second place
3233 in welding applications; and
3334 WHEREAS, Through their involvement in the district and state
3435 welding competitions, these Lumberton High School students have
3536 shown great initiative and talent, and they may indeed reflect with
3637 pride on their accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
3738 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3839 Legislature hereby congratulate the Lumberton High School welding
3940 students on their success in district and state competitions and
4041 extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it
4142 further
4243 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4344 prepared for the students as an expression of high regard by the
4445 Texas House of Representatives.
