5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with the |

6 | 7 | | death of Richard Nelson Rose of Arlington on March 3, 2015, at the |

7 | 8 | | age of 68; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Rick Rose was born in Longview on February 4, 1947, |
---|
9 | 10 | | to Dorothy and Marc Rose; after graduating from Copperas Cove High |
---|
10 | 11 | | School, he attended Tarleton State College; and |
---|
11 | 12 | | WHEREAS, In 1966, Mr. Rose interrupted his studies to enlist |
---|
12 | 13 | | in the United States Army; he trained with the Green Berets for 23 |
---|
13 | 14 | | months before his deployment to Vietnam, where he earned a Bronze |
---|
14 | 15 | | Star with valor; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Following his military service, Mr. Rose embarked |
---|
16 | 17 | | on a career in law enforcement; for five years, he worked as a |
---|
17 | 18 | | police officer and undercover narcotics investigator in Copperas |
---|
18 | 19 | | Cove, and he went on to investigate welfare fraud for the Dallas |
---|
19 | 20 | | County assistant district attorney's office; he later served as a |
---|
20 | 21 | | deputy sheriff in Athens, Texas, and he took pride in the role he |
---|
21 | 22 | | played as an investigator in the Betty Lou Beets murder case; and |
---|
22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, In his retirement, Mr. Rose took pleasure in hunting |
---|
23 | 24 | | and fishing, and he especially delighted in the time he spent with |
---|
24 | 25 | | his granddaughter, Emma; he was also a generous friend who never |
---|
25 | 26 | | failed to lend a hand when needed; and |
---|
26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Rose was passionate about politics, and he |
---|
27 | 28 | | demonstrated an unwavering commitment to defending those essential |
---|
28 | 29 | | freedoms guaranteed to citizens by the Constitution; he was a |
---|
29 | 30 | | precinct chair for the Tarrant County Republican Party and an |
---|
30 | 31 | | active member of the Arlington Tea Party, and he earned the |
---|
31 | 32 | | admiration of many with his dedication to the causes in which he |
---|
32 | 33 | | believed; and |
---|
33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, A true patriot, Rick Rose fought tirelessly to |
---|
34 | 35 | | protect this country's freedoms, and he leaves behind a record of |
---|
35 | 36 | | service that will continue to inspire all those who knew and loved |
---|
36 | 37 | | him; now, therefore, be it |

37 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

38 | 39 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Richard Nelson Rose |

39 | 40 | | and extend sincere condolences to the members of his family: to his |

40 | 41 | | wife, Bonnie Rose; to his daughter, Amanda Silva, and her husband, |

41 | 42 | | David; to his son, Jason Rose; to his sister, Carol Williams; to his |

42 | 43 | | grandchildren, Emma and Brayden; to his nephews, Mark and Paul |

43 | 44 | | Williams; to his nieces, Shelly Rutherford and Kerri Wagers; and to |

44 | 45 | | his other relatives and friends; and, be it further |
