45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Residents of Houston lost an admired physician and
67 civic leader with the passing of Dr. Edwin Joseph Morrow Jr. of
78 Houston on April 5, 2015, at the age of 93; and
89 WHEREAS, Born in Waco on June 18, 1921, Ed Morrow earned his
910 bachelor's degree in chemistry and biology from Baylor University;
1011 he worked as a chemist for Maintenance Engineering before going on
1112 to graduate from Baylor Medical School; after completing his
1213 internship at St. Louis University, he served his residency at
1314 Memorial Hospital in Houston under Dr. Paul V. Ledbetter, and he
1415 began practicing internal medicine with the Ledbetter Clinic
1516 Association in 1950; and
1617 WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan benefited his profession as both
1718 a practitioner and an educator; his teaching appointment at Baylor
1819 College of Medicine spanned four decades, and he taught at The
1920 University of Texas Dental Branch for 35 years; in addition, he was
2021 president of the Houston Heart Association, the Texas Heart
2122 Association, and Ledbetter Clinic, and he served on the board of
2223 Hycel Corporation, a medical equipment company; and
2324 WHEREAS, Deeply committed to his community, Dr. Morrow was a
2425 longtime member of Houston Kiwanis, and he received its Legion of
2526 Honor award; he was a very early supporter of the drive to establish
2627 a Jesuit high school in the city, and he helped found Strake Jesuit
2728 High School and supported St. Agnes Academy; for many years, he
2829 volunteered at the San Jose Clinic, and he performed physicals for
2930 the U.S. Military Entrance Processing Station in Houston and for
3031 Texas Task Force One; following his retirement from private
3132 practice in 2000, he continued to offer his time and expertise, and
3233 he assisted with triage for Hurricane Katrina evacuees at the
3334 Astrodome; he was named 2006 Retired Physician of the Year by the
3435 Harris County Medical Society; for 60 years, he was a member of the
3536 Houston Wednesday Breakfast Association; and
3637 WHEREAS, Dr. Morrow shared a fulfilling marriage of 67 years
3738 with the love of his life, Dorothy Martin Morrow, and he took great
3839 pride in his three treasured children, Jenny, Ed, and Eileen; he
3940 dedicated his last years to caring for his beloved wife and his
4041 friends at the Brookdale Galleria; and
4142 WHEREAS, Warm, kind, and enthusiastic, Ed Morrow embraced
4243 life to the fullest, and his record of service will remain an
4344 inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know him; now,
4445 therefore, be it
4546 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
4647 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dr. Edwin Joseph
4748 Morrow Jr. and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:
4849 to his children, Jenny Jo Morrow Senac and her husband, Rusty, Ed
4950 Morrow III and his wife, Jan, and Eileen Morrow Stork Caudle; to his
5051 grandchildren, Brian M. Stork and his wife, Kristen, E. J. Morrow IV
5152 and his wife, Robbie, and Christopher Morrow and his fiancée, Jenny
5253 Domaschk; to his sister-in-law, Evelyn Morrow; to his
5354 great-grandchildren; and to his many other relatives and friends;
5455 and, be it further
5556 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
5657 prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
5758 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Edwin
5859 Joseph Morrow Jr.
