5	6		WHEREAS, Residents of Houston lost an admired physician and
6	7		civic leader with the passing of Dr. Edwin Joseph Morrow Jr. of
7	8		Houston on April 5, 2015, at the age of 93; and
8	9		WHEREAS, Born in Waco on June 18, 1921, Ed Morrow earned his
9	10		bachelor's degree in chemistry and biology from Baylor University;
10	11		he worked as a chemist for Maintenance Engineering before going on
11	12		to graduate from Baylor Medical School; after completing his
12	13		internship at St. Louis University, he served his residency at
13	14		Memorial Hospital in Houston under Dr. Paul V. Ledbetter, and he
14	15		began practicing internal medicine with the Ledbetter Clinic
15	16		Association in 1950; and
16	17		WHEREAS, This dynamic Texan benefited his profession as both
17	18		a practitioner and an educator; his teaching appointment at Baylor
18	19		College of Medicine spanned four decades, and he taught at The
19	20		University of Texas Dental Branch for 35 years; in addition, he was
20	21		president of the Houston Heart Association, the Texas Heart
21	22		Association, and Ledbetter Clinic, and he served on the board of
22	23		Hycel Corporation, a medical equipment company; and
23	24		WHEREAS, Deeply committed to his community, Dr. Morrow was a
24	25		longtime member of Houston Kiwanis, and he received its Legion of
25	26		Honor award; he was a very early supporter of the drive to establish
26	27		a Jesuit high school in the city, and he helped found Strake Jesuit
27	28		High School and supported St. Agnes Academy; for many years, he
28	29		volunteered at the San Jose Clinic, and he performed physicals for
29	30		the U.S. Military Entrance Processing Station in Houston and for
30	31		Texas Task Force One; following his retirement from private
31	32		practice in 2000, he continued to offer his time and expertise, and
32	33		he assisted with triage for Hurricane Katrina evacuees at the
33	34		Astrodome; he was named 2006 Retired Physician of the Year by the
34	35		Harris County Medical Society; for 60 years, he was a member of the
35	36		Houston Wednesday Breakfast Association; and
36	37		WHEREAS, Dr. Morrow shared a fulfilling marriage of 67 years
37	38		with the love of his life, Dorothy Martin Morrow, and he took great
38	39		pride in his three treasured children, Jenny, Ed, and Eileen; he
39	40		dedicated his last years to caring for his beloved wife and his
40	41		friends at the Brookdale Galleria; and
41	42		WHEREAS, Warm, kind, and enthusiastic, Ed Morrow embraced
42	43		life to the fullest, and his record of service will remain an
43	44		inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know him; now,
44	45		therefore, be it
45	46		RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
46	47		Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Dr. Edwin Joseph
47	48		Morrow Jr. and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:
48	49		to his children, Jenny Jo Morrow Senac and her husband, Rusty, Ed
49	50		Morrow III and his wife, Jan, and Eileen Morrow Stork Caudle; to his
50	51		grandchildren, Brian M. Stork and his wife, Kristen, E. J. Morrow IV
51	52		and his wife, Robbie, and Christopher Morrow and his fiancée, Jenny
52	53		Domaschk; to his sister-in-law, Evelyn Morrow; to his
53	54		great-grandchildren; and to his many other relatives and friends;
54	55		and, be it further
55	56		RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
56	57		prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
57	58		Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Edwin
58	59		Joseph Morrow Jr.
