| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1988 by the Recording Academy, the |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | Grammy Foundation works to heighten appreciation of recorded music |

| 10 | 11 | | as a vital part of American culture; its initiatives also engage the |

| 11 | 12 | | industry, the cultural community, and the public to encourage |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | awareness of the value of arts education; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The Grammy Signature Schools program recognizes |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | public high schools that make an exceptional commitment to music |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | education; finalists in the competition submit documentation such |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | as recordings of school concerts and sample concert programs for |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | evaluation by an independent blue-ribbon committee of music |

| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In winning the highest honor accorded by the |

| 20 | 21 | | program, McCallum High School will also receive a $5,000 grant; the |

| 21 | 22 | | school is home to the Austin Independent School District's Fine |

| 22 | 23 | | Arts Academy, which draws talented students from across the city; |

| 23 | 24 | | led by director of bands Carol Nelson, the school's music programs |

| 24 | 25 | | include band, choir, orchestra, classical guitar, jazz ensemble, |

| 26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, McCallum High School is doing its part to uphold |

| 27 | 28 | | Austin's reputation as one of the nation's most musical cities, and |

| 28 | 29 | | this prestigious accolade is a source of pride to the entire |

| 30 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
