Gordon of El Paso has provided outstanding service to the State of Texas during his tenure on the Rio Grande Compact Commission, and he is truly deserving of special recognition; and WHEREAS, The 1938 Rio Grande Compact between Texas, Colorado, and New Mexico apportions water to the three states from the Rio Grande and its tributaries, and it is the job of the Texas member of the commission to ensure that the Lone Star State receives its fair share of quality water; Mr. Gordon was first appointed to the commission by Governor Rick Perry in 2006, and he won reappointment in 2008 and 2013; his current term expires in 2019; and WHEREAS, A graduate of Texas A&M University, Pat Gordon earned his law degree and a master's degree in business administration from Texas Tech University, and he is a partner and president of Gordon Davis Johnson and Shane PC; in addition, he is a CPA and licensed real estate broker, and he is certified in tax law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization; and WHEREAS, Mr. Gordon also contributes to his community as a member of the El Paso Juarez chapter of the Young Presidents' Organization, as president of the El Paso Estate Planning Council, and as a board member of the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs; moreover, he is a merit badge counselor and a board member of the Yucca Council of the Boy Scouts of America; and WHEREAS, By giving freely of his time, energy, and expertise to help ensure our state's access to one of its most precious resources, Pat Gordon is contributing greatly to the well-being and prosperity of all Texans; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby commend Patrick R. Gordon for his service on the Rio Grande Compact Commission and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success in his important work; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Gordon as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
