5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The citizens of Kimble County lost an esteemed |

6 | 7 | | community leader with the passing of Wilbur Ray Dunk on May 10, |

7 | 8 | | 2013, at the age of 84; and |
---|
8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Wilbur Dunk was born in Kimble County on September |
---|
9 | 10 | | 9, 1928, to William Henry and Ada Ophelia Dunk; as a teenager, he |
---|
10 | 11 | | was the national first vice president of the FFA, and he graduated |
---|
11 | 12 | | from Junction High School in 1946; and |
---|
12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, A United States Army veteran, Mr. Dunk was stationed |
---|
13 | 14 | | at Fort Hood before he returned to his family's ranch near Junction; |
---|
14 | 15 | | in addition to ranching, he served his community as an elected |
---|
15 | 16 | | public official for more than 33 years, first as the Precinct 4 |
---|
16 | 17 | | Kimble County commissioner and then as the county judge; he was a |
---|
17 | 18 | | charter member of the Texas Association of Regional Councils and a |
---|
18 | 19 | | director and president of the National Association of Regional |
---|
19 | 20 | | Councils, and he was recognized with the Tom Bradley Regional |
---|
20 | 21 | | Leadership Award and the first Wilbur R. Dunk Regional Leadership |
---|
21 | 22 | | Award, which was named in his honor; and |
---|
22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Dunk also served as president of the Junction |
---|
23 | 24 | | Independent School District Board of Trustees, and he was a member |
---|
24 | 25 | | of the Lions and Rotary Clubs; moreover, he was a deacon at First |
---|
25 | 26 | | United Methodist Church and later at First Baptist Church; and |

26 | 27 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Dunk enjoyed the love and |

27 | 28 | | support of his wife, the former Joyce Pyles, with whom he shared |
---|
28 | 29 | | nearly six decades, and he took great pride in his children, Debra |
---|
29 | 30 | | and Duane, and in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and |
---|
30 | 31 | | WHEREAS, The life of Wilbur Dunk stands as an inspiring |

31 | 32 | | example of positive civic engagement, and he leaves behind a legacy |

32 | 33 | | of good works that will long resonate in Kimble County; now, |

34 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

35 | 36 | | Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Wilbur Ray Dunk and |

36 | 37 | | extend heartfelt sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, |

37 | 38 | | Joyce Dunk; to his children, Debra Speer and her husband, Kelly, and |

38 | 39 | | Duane Dunk and his wife, Tammy; to his brother, Harold Dunk, and his |

39 | 40 | | wife, Barbara; to his four grandchildren and nine |
