No. 2441 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, On behalf of the Deputy Sheriff's Association of Bexar County, President Juan Contreras is taking part in the annual commemoration for fallen police officers in Austin on May 4, 2015; and WHEREAS, Over the course of three days, peace officers from across Texas are participating in a number of solemn events: a motorcycle Ride for the Fallen on May 2, a candlelight vigil on the grounds of the State Capitol on May 3, and the Statewide Memorial Service on the south steps of the Capitol on May 4; and WHEREAS, The Deputy Sheriff's Association of Bexar County represents the interests of the deputies of the Bexar County Sheriff's Office; a deputy with that office since 1997, Juan Contreras has held the post of DSABC president since October 2014; he previously served the association as legislation committee chair from 2009 to 2011 and as vice president from 2011 to 2014; and WHEREAS, President Contreras and the other DSABC officers take pride in serving their fellow deputies, whose bravery and dedication to their work exemplify the highest ideals of the law enforcement profession; this exceptional group counts among its number Don Tijerina, a patrol captain in the sheriff's office and a DSABC member who also serves as national president of the Hispanic American Police Command Officers Association and as president of the San Antonio chapter of HAPCOA; and WHEREAS, Law enforcement personnel play a vital role in promoting the public safety, often at great personal risk, and in paying tribute to fallen comrades during the 2015 Statewide Memorial Service, President Juan Contreras is demonstrating solidarity on behalf of DSABC members with fellow peace officers all across the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the 2015 Peace Officers' Memorial Services and commend Juan Contreras and the Deputy Sheriff's Association of Bexar County for their outstanding service to the deputies of the Bexar County Sheriff's Office; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Deputy Sheriff's Association of Bexar County as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
