5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Terri Drefke is celebrating her 25th anniversary as |

6 | 7 | | chief executive officer of the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley, |

7 | 8 | | Inc., in 2014, and this occasion presents a fitting opportunity to |

8 | 9 | | recognize her for her exemplary service; and |

9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Since assuming leadership of the Food Bank RGV in |
---|
10 | 11 | | 1989, Ms. Drefke has helped implement a number of worthwhile |
---|
11 | 12 | | programs, and today the nonprofit is the state's fifth largest food |
---|
12 | 13 | | bank based on distribution; the organization partners with some 230 |
---|
13 | 14 | | agencies and has distributed over 24 million pounds of food, worth |
---|
14 | 15 | | an estimated $20 million, this year alone, and it helps to feed more |
---|
15 | 16 | | than 42,000 residents of Hidalgo, Cameron, and Willacy Counties |
---|
16 | 17 | | each week; and |

17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, In addition to her exceptional efforts in behalf of |

18 | 19 | | the food bank, Ms. Drefke has given generously of her time and |
---|
19 | 20 | | talents to numerous civic organizations; she serves as chair of the |
---|
20 | 21 | | Pharr Cultural Arts Council and as a member of the boards of Faith |
---|
21 | 22 | | Communities for Disaster Recovery, Catholic Charities, and two |
---|
22 | 23 | | local emergency food and shelter programs; she is also a member of |
---|
23 | 24 | | the McAllen South Rotary Club, and she has served as president of |
---|
24 | 25 | | Feeding Texas; and |

25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Drefke is blessed in all of her endeavors with |

26 | 27 | | the love and support of her husband, Don Drefke, and their two |
---|
27 | 28 | | children, Heather and Karl; and |

28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, For the past quarter-century, Terri Drefke has |

29 | 30 | | demonstrated a steadfast commitment to bettering the lives of Rio |

30 | 31 | | Grande Valley residents, and her many notable accomplishments have |

31 | 32 | | made a positive and lasting impact in her community; now, |

33 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

34 | 35 | | Legislature hereby commend Terri Drefke for her 25 years of service |
