| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The 30th anniversary of the Jim Hogg County Fair in |

| 6 | 7 | | Hebbronville in March 2015 provides a fitting opportunity to take |

| 7 | 8 | | note of this popular annual community festival; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A long-standing annual tradition, the event was |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | officially organized in 1985 by nine area residents under the aegis |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | of the Jim Hogg County Fair Association; Eusebio G. Nava served as |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | the association's first president; and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | WHEREAS, During that inaugural year, Marissa Ramirez was |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | crowned as the first Miss Jim Hogg County Queen; in 1987, the Little |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | Mr. and Miss Jim Hogg County competition was introduced, and in |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | 1988, the fair began honoring a Rancher of the Year; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In its early days, the fair had no permanent home, |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | but in 1994 the association purchased a site, with additional land |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | donated by the family of Aris Barrera; over time, the fairground |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | facilities have grown to include the Jim Hogg County Fair Pavilion, |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | which is the largest dance hall in the county, as well as a show barn |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | for exhibiting livestock; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The central attraction of the fair continues to be |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | the livestock competition, in which young members of FFA and 4-H |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | compete to show steers, bulls, heifers, lambs, goats, hogs, |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | rabbits, and other animals; attendees also delight in the fair's |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | other events, including a trail ride, a carnival, a parade, and a |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | cook-off; and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, By combining family-friendly recreation with the |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | promotion of agriculture and animal husbandry, the Jim Hogg County |

| 30 | 31 | | Fair has enlightened, enriched, and entertained residents and |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | visitors alike for three successful decades; now, therefore, be it |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Jim Hogg |

| 34 | 35 | | County Fair and extend sincere best wishes for the future to the |

| 35 | 36 | | Fair Association and its employees and volunteers; and, be it |
