| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Nishiki Maredia has ably served her fellow Texans as |

| 6 | 7 | | an aide in the office of State Representative Gene Wu during the |

| 7 | 8 | | 84th Legislative Session; and |
|---|
| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Since joining the staff, Ms. Maredia has provided |

| 9 | 10 | | vital assistance in handling a wide variety of challenging tasks; |

| 10 | 11 | | in addition to learning more about the legislative process and the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | issues facing citizens of the Lone Star State, she has gained |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | valuable experience in the field of public service; and |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Maredia is a student at The University of Texas |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | at Austin, where she has acquired leadership experience through her |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | involvement in a number of notable groups; she has served as |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | secretary, vice president, and president of the History Club, as |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | coxswain for the women's and men's rowing teams, and as head |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | representative for the Westlake Chapter of the Junior Statesmen of |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | America; moreover, she was a cofounder of Your Fan Club, which works |

| 20 | 21 | | to promote gender equality in sports teams and other organizations; |

| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, In addition to her campus activities, Ms. Maredia |

| 23 | 24 | | has contributed more than 1,500 hours of community service with |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | such organizations as the Red Cross, the Capital Area Food Bank of |

| 25 | 26 | | Texas, Keep Austin Beautiful, and the Austin Learning Center, where |

| 26 | 27 | | she has worked as a tutor and mentor; she has also engaged in |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | grassroots politics as a finance intern with Annie's List and as a |

| 28 | 29 | | participant in the Wendy Davis Fellowship program; and |

| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, This outstanding young Texan has performed her |

| 30 | 31 | | duties as a legislative aide with skill and dedication, and she is |

| 31 | 32 | | indeed deserving of special recognition for her fine work; now, |
