 R E S O L U T I O N
 WHEREAS, San Juana Elizondo, principal of Scroggins
 Elementary School in Houston, is retiring from the Houston
 Independent School District after more than 40 years of exceptional
 service, and she is celebrating her retirement and her birthday on
 August 21, 2015; and
 WHEREAS, After graduating from Milby High School in Houston
 in 1970, Ms. Elizondo went on to earn bachelor's and master's
 degrees in education from the University of Houston; she began her
 tenure with the Houston ISD in 1974, and over the years she has held
 a variety of positions with the district; since 1988 she has served
 as principal of Scroggins; and
 WHEREAS, Ms. Elizondo has worked throughout her career to
 implement programs to enhance learning opportunities for students,
 and she helped lead Scroggins to an "Exemplary" rating from the
 Texas Education Agency in 2010; she has also overseen renovations
 at that school, as well as improvements to the magnet program,
 particularly in the areas of literature and fine arts; and
 WHEREAS, Dedicated to the betterment of her community as
 well, Ms. Elizondo has worked with parents and civic leaders to
 develop classes for family literacy, nutrition, and technology,
 among others; she has also endeavored to provide students with
 Saturday and after-school tutorials, and she has helped teachers
 create events such as science and math nights and gifted and
 talented showcases; and
 WHEREAS, San Juana Elizondo's dedication, professionalism,
 and commitment to excellence have greatly benefited her students
 and colleagues, and she may indeed reflect with pride on a career
 well spent as she embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life;
 now, therefore, be it
 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
 Legislature hereby congratulate San Juana Elizondo on the occasion
 of her retirement and extend to her sincere best wishes for a happy
 birthday; and, be it further
 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
 prepared for Ms. Elizondo as an expression of high regard by the
 Texas House of Representatives.
