| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, San Juana Elizondo, principal of Scroggins |

| 8 | 9 | | service, and she is celebrating her retirement and her birthday on |

| 10 | 11 | | WHEREAS, After graduating from Milby High School in Houston |

| 11 | 12 | | in 1970, Ms. Elizondo went on to earn bachelor's and master's |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | degrees in education from the University of Houston; she began her |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | tenure with the Houston ISD in 1974, and over the years she has held |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | a variety of positions with the district; since 1988 she has served |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | as principal of Scroggins; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Elizondo has worked throughout her career to |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | implement programs to enhance learning opportunities for students, |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | and she helped lead Scroggins to an "Exemplary" rating from the |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | Texas Education Agency in 2010; she has also overseen renovations |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | at that school, as well as improvements to the magnet program, |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | particularly in the areas of literature and fine arts; and |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Dedicated to the betterment of her community as |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | well, Ms. Elizondo has worked with parents and civic leaders to |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | develop classes for family literacy, nutrition, and technology, |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | among others; she has also endeavored to provide students with |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Saturday and after-school tutorials, and she has helped teachers |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | create events such as science and math nights and gifted and |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | talented showcases; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, San Juana Elizondo's dedication, professionalism, |
|---|
| 30 | 31 | | and commitment to excellence have greatly benefited her students |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | and colleagues, and she may indeed reflect with pride on a career |

| 32 | 33 | | well spent as she embarks on the next exciting chapter of her life; |
