R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, For 40 years, the Discovery School of San Antonio
has provided young Texans with a strong academic foundation on
which to build; and
WHEREAS, The Discovery School of San Antonio has offered
high-quality preschool education for children in the San Antonio
area since 1974; governed by a volunteer parent board of directors,
this nonprofit, multidenominational preschool has an enrollment of
more than 175 children, ages two through seven; the school serves a
diverse population from a wide range of backgrounds, and it
provides financial assistance to those in need through its
scholarship program; and
WHEREAS, With the motto "We learn as we play and play as we
learn," the Discovery School strives to engage students with
activities that are both fun and educational; the program is also
designed to maximize parental involvement and create enriching
opportunities for families to bond and engage with others; and
WHEREAS, The Discovery School is accredited by the National
Association for the Education of Young Children, an honor accorded
to less than five percent of all child-care centers in the city; the
NAEYC distinction assesses factors such as excellence in
curriculum, interactions among staff, children, and parents,
physical environment, staffing, and health and safety; and
WHEREAS, Over the past four decades, the faculty and staff of
the Discovery School of San Antonio have committed themselves to
inspiring a love of learning that will serve their students well
throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate the 40th anniversary of the
Discovery School of San Antonio and extend to all those associated
with the institution sincere best wishes for continued success;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the school as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
