| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, For 40 years, the Discovery School of San Antonio |

| 6 | 7 | | has provided young Texans with a strong academic foundation on |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The Discovery School of San Antonio has offered |

| 9 | 10 | | high-quality preschool education for children in the San Antonio |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | area since 1974; governed by a volunteer parent board of directors, |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | this nonprofit, multidenominational preschool has an enrollment of |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | more than 175 children, ages two through seven; the school serves a |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | diverse population from a wide range of backgrounds, and it |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | provides financial assistance to those in need through its |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | scholarship program; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, With the motto "We learn as we play and play as we |

| 17 | 18 | | learn," the Discovery School strives to engage students with |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | activities that are both fun and educational; the program is also |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | designed to maximize parental involvement and create enriching |
|---|
| 20 | 21 | | opportunities for families to bond and engage with others; and |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The Discovery School is accredited by the National |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | Association for the Education of Young Children, an honor accorded |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | to less than five percent of all child-care centers in the city; the |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | NAEYC distinction assesses factors such as excellence in |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | curriculum, interactions among staff, children, and parents, |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | physical environment, staffing, and health and safety; and |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Over the past four decades, the faculty and staff of |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | the Discovery School of San Antonio have committed themselves to |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | inspiring a love of learning that will serve their students well |

| 30 | 31 | | throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it |

| 31 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 32 | 33 | | Legislature hereby commemorate the 40th anniversary of the |

| 33 | 34 | | Discovery School of San Antonio and extend to all those associated |

| 34 | 35 | | with the institution sincere best wishes for continued success; |
