56 WHEREAS, Chris Ramirez, a reporter for the Corpus Christi
67 Caller-Times, was honored at the 12th annual First Amendment Awards
78 and Scholarship Dinner, presented by the Fort Worth chapter of the
89 Society of Professional Journalists on April 17, 2015; and
910 WHEREAS, These unique accolades recognize exceptional
1011 journalism that defends the freedom of the press as guaranteed by
1112 the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, supports the public's
1213 right to know, and champions the powerless and disadvantaged; and
1314 WHEREAS, Competing in the category for newspapers with a
1415 circulation of less than 50,000, Mr. Ramirez won an Opening the
1516 Books Award for his story titled "When Wells Run Dry," published in
1617 the Caller-Times; furthermore, his story "Port Growth" was a
1718 finalist in that same category; and
1819 WHEREAS, Through his skill, hard work, and dedication to the
1920 principles enshrined in the First Amendment, Chris Ramirez has
2021 earned well-deserved recognition from his professional peers for
2122 his journalistic excellence; now, therefore, be it
2223 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
2324 Legislature hereby congratulate Chris Ramirez for winning a 2015
2425 First Amendment Award from the Fort Worth Society of Professional
2526 Journalists and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued
2627 success; and, be it further
2728 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2829 prepared for Mr. Ramirez as an expression of high regard by the
2930 Texas House of Representatives.
