8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of Valentine, Mr. Rentería began his |

10 | 11 | | Mexico in 1972; in 1976, he joined the Las Cruces bureau of the El |

11 | 12 | | Paso Times, and a few years later, he joined the main office in El |

13 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Rentería went on to cover the education beat for |

14 | 15 | | nearly 20 years, earning a reputation as one of the best education |

15 | 16 | | reporters in the state; in 1989, his story "Separate and unequal: |

16 | 17 | | the story of Kelli, Veronica and school finance" won a number of |

19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Since 2008, Mr. Rentería has written a popular |

20 | 21 | | Sunday column for the paper, frequently employing a colloquial |

21 | 22 | | mixture of Spanish and English and sometimes making up his own words |

22 | 23 | | to express a particularly nuanced idea; in these columns, he often |
