| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The Coles High Green Hornets entered the 1965 season |

| 9 | 10 | | with high hopes after advancing all the way to the semifinals of the |

| 10 | 11 | | state tournament the previous year; the squad recovered from a |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | mediocre 7-6 start, and as the regular season drew to a close, the |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Green Hornets were winning consistently and were well positioned to |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | make a deep run in the Prairie View Interscholastic League state |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | playoffs; and |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Bolstered by a talented pitching staff, Coles High |

| 16 | 17 | | began the postseason with a three-game series against district |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | rival Brenham Pickard High School; the teams split the first two |

| 18 | 19 | | contests, but the Green Hornets proved their mettle in the deciding |

| 19 | 20 | | game, pulling off a 5-4 extra-innings victory to claim the District |

| 20 | 21 | | 8-3A championship; the team then defeated Cypress-Fairbanks |

| 21 | 22 | | Carverdale High School in a one-game playoff to secure its spot in |

| 22 | 23 | | the state tournament; and |

| 23 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Matching up against Waco Carver High School in the |

| 24 | 25 | | semifinals, the Green Hornets were held scoreless in the first game |

| 25 | 26 | | but responded with a comeback victory in Game 2 to keep their season |

| 26 | 27 | | alive; the team ultimately fell to Carver in the final game of the |

| 27 | 28 | | series, but it was later determined that their opponent had |

| 28 | 29 | | competed with two ineligible players; Coles High was reinstated as |

| 29 | 30 | | a result, and with their hopes for a state championship |

| 44 | 45 | | WHEREAS, In claiming the state title, the 1965 Coles Green |
