| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley in Pharr has |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1983 as the Pharr Area Food Pantry, |

| 9 | 10 | | the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley was incorporated in 1986 and |

| 10 | 11 | | now serves as a clearinghouse to distribute donated, purchased, and |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | prepared foods through a network of 230 partner agencies to 42,000 |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | residents per week in Hidalgo, Cameron, and Willacy Counties; one |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | of the largest food banks in the Lone Star State, it supplies an |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | average of 20 million pounds of food to people in the Rio Grande |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Valley annually; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, This nonprofit organization takes part in a number |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | of worthwhile initiatives as a member of the Texas Food Bank Network |

| 18 | 19 | | and Feeding America, the nation's largest domestic hunger relief |

| 19 | 20 | | organization; moreover, it participates in Feeding America's Kids |

| 20 | 21 | | Cafe program, which helps ensure that children have access to |

| 21 | 22 | | nutritious foods; and |

| 22 | 23 | | WHEREAS, The food bank further serves the wider community |

| 23 | 24 | | through its Our School Tools program, which provides school |

| 24 | 25 | | supplies for students at more than 50 elementary schools in the |

| 25 | 26 | | area; it also works to educate families on the health advantages of |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | fresh foods through its Healthy Living Program as well as its Valley |

| 27 | 28 | | Garden Project; and |

| 28 | 29 | | WHEREAS, With the worthy goal of alleviating hunger, the Food |

| 29 | 30 | | Bank of the Rio Grande Valley makes immeasurable contributions to |

| 30 | 31 | | the people of South Texas, and it indeed merits special recognition |

| 31 | 32 | | for its achievements and service; now, therefore, be it |

| 32 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

| 33 | 34 | | Legislature hereby honor the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley and |
