5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Officer Billy Cruz of the Arlington Police |

6 | 7 | | Department placed himself directly in harm's way on the evening of |

7 | 8 | | May 5, 2015, when he aided in the rescue of a number of people from a |

8 | 9 | | fire at an apartment complex; and |
---|
9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Officer Cruz and another police officer were on the |
---|
10 | 11 | | scene attending to an unrelated call when they smelled smoke |
---|
11 | 12 | | emanating from a row of apartments, where a three-alarm fire had |
---|
12 | 13 | | broken out; acting quickly, they ran into the apartments to alert |
---|
13 | 14 | | the residents and usher them to safety; despite lacking any sort of |
---|
14 | 15 | | protective or breathing gear, the officers went on to make multiple |
---|
15 | 16 | | trips into the path of danger to ensure that every resident was |
---|
16 | 17 | | evacuated; and |
---|
17 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Thanks to the officers' heroic actions, everyone in |
---|
18 | 19 | | the burning buildings escaped unharmed, including an infant; |
---|
19 | 20 | | Officer Cruz and his partner were treated for smoke inhalation at a |
---|
20 | 21 | | local hospital and ultimately released; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, In risking his own life to save the lives of others, |
---|
22 | 23 | | Officer Billy Cruz embodied the highest ideals of the law |
---|
23 | 24 | | enforcement profession, and he is indeed deserving of our esteem |
---|
24 | 25 | | and gratitude for his steadfast bravery; now, therefore, be it |
---|
25 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
---|
26 | 27 | | Legislature hereby commend Officer Billy Cruz for his act of valor |
---|
27 | 28 | | in rescuing a group of fellow citizens from a fire and extend to him |
---|
28 | 29 | | sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |

29 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
