45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, Demonstrating great courage and devotion to duty,
67 Officer Kristi Johnson of the Arlington Police Department aided in
78 the rescue of a number of people from a fire at an apartment complex
89 on May 5, 2015; and
910 WHEREAS, Officer Johnson and another police officer were on
1011 the scene attending to an unrelated call when they smelled smoke
1112 emanating from a row of apartments, where a three-alarm fire had
1213 broken out; acting quickly, they ran into the apartments to alert
1314 the residents and usher them to safety; despite lacking any sort of
1415 protective or breathing gear, the officers went on to make multiple
1516 trips into the path of danger to ensure that every resident was
1617 evacuated; and
1718 WHEREAS, Thanks to the officers' heroic actions, everyone in
1819 the burning buildings escaped unharmed, including an infant;
1920 Officer Johnson and her partner were treated for smoke inhalation
2021 at a local hospital and ultimately released; and
2122 WHEREAS, In risking her own life to save the lives of others,
2223 Officer Kristi Johnson embodied the highest ideals of the law
2324 enforcement profession, and she is indeed deserving of our esteem
2425 and gratitude for her steadfast bravery; now, therefore, be it
2526 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
2627 Legislature hereby commend Officer Kristi Johnson for her act of
2728 valor in rescuing a group of fellow citizens from a fire and extend
2829 to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
2930 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3031 prepared for Officer Johnson as an expression of high regard by the
3132 Texas House of Representatives.
