5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Lois S. Crook has been honored for her service |

6 | 7 | | during World War II by the Waco Tribune-Herald in its "Voices of |

8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Raised in North Dakota, Lois Crook graduated from |

9 | 10 | | Trinity Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1943 and |

10 | 11 | | joined the United States Army Air Forces the following year at Lowry |
---|
11 | 12 | | Field in Colorado; she served in Marfa, where there were only eight |
---|
12 | 13 | | nurses to care for thousands of service personnel; subsequently, |
---|
13 | 14 | | she was stationed in Arizona, California, and Mississippi, as well |
---|
14 | 15 | | as in Amarillo, and she rose to the rank of captain; and |
---|
15 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Her first husband, Clyde Ray Jones Jr., was an air |

16 | 17 | | force pilot; following his death in the line of duty in England in |

17 | 18 | | 1953, she returned to the United States with her daughter, Leslie, |

18 | 19 | | and completed her bachelor's degree at the University of |
---|
19 | 20 | | Mississippi; she remarried in 1958 and began a career with the |

20 | 21 | | Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Waco that spanned 25 years; and |
---|
21 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Lois Crook served her country with skill and |

22 | 23 | | dedication as a member of the Greatest Generation, and she has |
---|
23 | 24 | | earned the lasting respect and appreciation of her fellow |
---|
24 | 25 | | Americans; now, therefore, be it |

25 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |

26 | 27 | | Legislature hereby congratulate Lois Crook on her inclusion in the |

27 | 28 | | Waco Tribune-Herald "Voices of Valor" series and extend to her |
