| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The McGregor Family Learning Center is dedicated to |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Recognizing the important role parents play as their |

| 9 | 10 | | children's first teachers, the center works to ensure that mothers |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | and fathers are well prepared to serve in that capacity; the |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | center's adult programs promote family literacy by developing |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | language, reading, and writing skills and encouraging their daily |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | use in the home setting; and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The center's programs include GED and ESL classes |

| 15 | 16 | | that enhance the knowledge of parents and provide them with crucial |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | skills they need in the workplace and other environments; moreover, |

| 17 | 18 | | the center sponsors events such as Family Literacy Day to raise |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | awareness of its initiatives and of issues surrounding adult |

| 19 | 20 | | education; and |

| 20 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Through its commitment to literacy, the McGregor |

| 21 | 22 | | Family Learning Center is making a positive difference in the lives |

| 22 | 23 | | of many area residents, and it is indeed fitting to recognize its |

| 23 | 24 | | contributions; now, therefore, be it |

| 24 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
