7 | 8 | | on May 8, 2015, in honor of her commitment to education, family, and |

8 | 9 | | the community; and |

9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The director of investments for the $3.4 billion |

10 | 11 | | Employees' Retirement Fund for the City of Dallas, Ms. Sorrell |
---|
11 | 12 | | oversees the design and implementation of the overall investment |
---|
12 | 13 | | strategy for ERF; since joining the group in 2006, she has led the |
---|
13 | 14 | | effort to fulfill new private equity, private real estate, global |
---|
14 | 15 | | equity, and master limited partnership allocations of more than |
---|
15 | 16 | | $600 million; she has also played an integral role in the |
---|
16 | 17 | | establishment of the Next Generation Manager Program, allocating 10 |
---|
17 | 18 | | percent of the fund to smaller, newer, and/or minority-owned |
---|
18 | 19 | | investment managers across asset classes; and |

19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Sorrell began her distinguished career in |

20 | 21 | | finance with the mergers and acquisitions group in investment |

21 | 22 | | banking at J. P. Morgan in New York City; she went on to join the |

22 | 23 | | private equity arm of GE Capital, GE Equity, and later worked in |

23 | 24 | | both global strategy and finance director posts at publishers |

24 | 25 | | McGraw-Hill and Voyager Expanded Learning; and |

25 | 26 | | WHEREAS, An honors graduate of Spelman College, Ms. Sorrell |

26 | 27 | | earned her MBA from the Wharton School at the University of |

27 | 28 | | Pennsylvania; frequently recognized for her many accomplishments, |
---|
28 | 29 | | she was named a German Marshall Fellow in 2009, and in 2011 she |

29 | 30 | | received the Rising Star of Public Funds Award from Institutional |

30 | 31 | | Investor; more recently, she has been honored as one of the Dallas |

31 | 32 | | Business Journal's "40 Under Forty" and as one of the 40 Under Forty |

33 | 34 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed executive has given back to her fellow |

34 | 35 | | North Texas residents through her work as chair of the investment |

35 | 36 | | committee of Big Thought, a Dallas-based nonprofit focused on |

36 | 37 | | creative learning solutions for at-risk youth; she is also active |

37 | 38 | | in the capital campaign for the Methodist Health System Foundation |

38 | 39 | | and, as a member of the Dallas Chapter of The Links, Inc., she has |

41 | 42 | | WHEREAS, Married to Michael J. Sorrell, president of Paul |

42 | 43 | | Quinn College, Ms. Sorrell is a devoted mother to a young son and |

44 | 45 | | WHEREAS, Natalie Jenkins Sorrell has set an inspiring example |

46 | 47 | | balancing the demands of a growing family, and she may take great |

48 | 49 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
