| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, World War II veteran Henry Fleischhauer has been |

| 6 | 7 | | featured in the Waco Tribune-Herald as one of its Voices of Valor; |

| 8 | 9 | | WHEREAS, A native of Riesel, Mr. Fleischhauer tried to enlist |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | in the military after graduating from high school, but he was turned |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | down because he was considered more useful to the war effort as a |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | farmer; six months later, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, and |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | after training at Fort Pickett, Virginia, he shipped out to |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | England, arriving there in October 1944; following several more |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | weeks of training, he landed in France with the 310th Infantry |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Regiment of the 78th Infantry Division; and |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Fleischhauer and his anti-tank unit fought in |

| 17 | 18 | | the Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe campaigns, and |

| 18 | 19 | | he was in mortal danger on many occasions; during the occupation of |

| 19 | 20 | | Germany, he served as a prison guard and took part in the capture of |

| 20 | 21 | | two escaped S.S. officers; occasionally his wartime experiences |

| 21 | 22 | | took a lighter turn: he celebrated his 21st birthday in a winery, |

| 22 | 23 | | sharing his K-rations with the family who operated the wine press; |

| 24 | 25 | | WHEREAS, The recipient of three Bronze Stars and a number of |

| 25 | 26 | | other decorations, Mr. Fleischhauer was honorably discharged in |

| 26 | 27 | | 1946; he returned to Texas and married Dorothy King in 1947, and |

| 27 | 28 | | they shared a union that spanned six and a half decades, until her |

| 28 | 29 | | passing in 2012; Mr. Fleishhauer worked for the General Electric |

| 29 | 30 | | Supply Company for 47 years in Waco, Fort Worth, and New Orleans; |

| 31 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Through his bravery and great dedication, Henry |

| 32 | 33 | | Fleischhauer fulfilled the highest ideals of the United States |
