45 R E S O L U T I O N
56 WHEREAS, World War II veteran Henry Fleischhauer has been
67 featured in the Waco Tribune-Herald as one of its Voices of Valor;
78 and
89 WHEREAS, A native of Riesel, Mr. Fleischhauer tried to enlist
910 in the military after graduating from high school, but he was turned
1011 down because he was considered more useful to the war effort as a
1112 farmer; six months later, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, and
1213 after training at Fort Pickett, Virginia, he shipped out to
1314 England, arriving there in October 1944; following several more
1415 weeks of training, he landed in France with the 310th Infantry
1516 Regiment of the 78th Infantry Division; and
1617 WHEREAS, Mr. Fleischhauer and his anti-tank unit fought in
1718 the Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe campaigns, and
1819 he was in mortal danger on many occasions; during the occupation of
1920 Germany, he served as a prison guard and took part in the capture of
2021 two escaped S.S. officers; occasionally his wartime experiences
2122 took a lighter turn: he celebrated his 21st birthday in a winery,
2223 sharing his K-rations with the family who operated the wine press;
2324 and
2425 WHEREAS, The recipient of three Bronze Stars and a number of
2526 other decorations, Mr. Fleischhauer was honorably discharged in
2627 1946; he returned to Texas and married Dorothy King in 1947, and
2728 they shared a union that spanned six and a half decades, until her
2829 passing in 2012; Mr. Fleishhauer worked for the General Electric
2930 Supply Company for 47 years in Waco, Fort Worth, and New Orleans;
3031 and
3132 WHEREAS, Through his bravery and great dedication, Henry
3233 Fleischhauer fulfilled the highest ideals of the United States
3334 armed forces, and his fellow citizens owe him a lasting debt of
3435 gratitude; now, therefore, be it
3536 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas
3637 Legislature hereby honor Henry Fleischhauer for his exemplary
3738 service to his country as a member of the United States Army and
3839 congratulate him on his recognition as one of the Voices of Valor by
3940 the Waco Tribune-Herald; and, be it further
4041 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
4142 prepared for Mr. Fleischhauer as an expression of high regard by
4243 the Texas House of Representatives.
