| 5 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Patricia K. Allen is retiring as principal of |

| 6 | 7 | | Henry F. MacGregor Elementary School on August 31, 2015, after 35 |

| 7 | 8 | | years of outstanding service to the Houston Independent School |

| 8 | 9 | | District; and |
|---|
| 9 | 10 | | WHEREAS, This esteemed educator began her career in 1980, |
|---|
| 10 | 11 | | when she became a fifth-grade teacher at Lockhart Elementary School |
|---|
| 11 | 12 | | in Houston; after two years, she transferred to MacGregor |
|---|
| 12 | 13 | | Elementary School, where she took on such leadership roles as |
|---|
| 13 | 14 | | Chapter I faculty leader, School Area II representative, and |
|---|
| 14 | 15 | | administrative intern; she then accepted a position at Thompson |
|---|
| 15 | 16 | | Elementary School, and while serving on the faculty there, she |
|---|
| 16 | 17 | | founded the Charmette Girl's Club and directed the Drum Corps; she |
|---|
| 17 | 18 | | went on to train area elementary teachers for several years in the |
|---|
| 18 | 19 | | Project Charlie Character Education Program; and |
|---|
| 19 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In 1995, Dr. Allen returned to MacGregor Elementary |

| 20 | 21 | | as the magnet coordinator; she also served as volunteer |
|---|
| 21 | 22 | | coordinator, gifted and talented coordinator, bond coordinator, |
|---|
| 22 | 23 | | instructional coordinator, and chair of the Shared Decision Making |
|---|
| 23 | 24 | | Committee; furthermore, she acted as the school's business liaison |
|---|
| 24 | 25 | | and fostered relationships with a number of notable organizations, |
|---|
| 25 | 26 | | including the Houston Rockets, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and the |
|---|
| 26 | 27 | | Judson Robinson Jr. Community Center; she was promoted to principal |
|---|
| 27 | 28 | | in 2006, and under her expert guidance, the school has earned the |
|---|
| 28 | 29 | | "Met Standards" rating and five Distinctions; and |
|---|
| 29 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Respected and admired by her colleagues, Dr. Allen |

| 30 | 31 | | was named Outstanding Young Educator at Lockhart Elementary in |
|---|
| 31 | 32 | | 1981, and she received a nomination for Teacher of the Year at |
|---|
| 32 | 33 | | MacGregor Elementary in 1985; while fulfilling her professional |

| 33 | 34 | | duties, she also continued her own academic pursuits, earning a |
|---|
| 34 | 35 | | master's degree in administration and a doctorate in curriculum and |
|---|
| 35 | 36 | | instruction from the University of Houston; and |
|---|
| 36 | 37 | | WHEREAS, Through her consummate professionalism and |
|---|
| 37 | 38 | | commitment to excellence, Patricia Allen has helped equip area |
|---|
| 38 | 39 | | children with the knowledge and skills necessary to build a bright |
|---|
| 39 | 40 | | and rewarding future, and in so doing, she has touched the lives of |
|---|
| 40 | 41 | | countless young Texans; now, therefore, be it |

| 41 | 42 | | RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas |
