No. 2700 R E S O L U T I O N WHEREAS, Texas singer Hannah Kirby has performed memorably on the popular television talent competition The Voice, placing among the top eight finalists in the show's 2015 season; and WHEREAS, Hannah Kirby is the daughter of Richard and Nancy Kirby of Sulphur Springs, and this talented 21-year-old has been playing the violin since she was eight and singing professionally since she was 12; currently a student at Texas A&M University--Commerce, Ms. Kirby blends a variety of influences into her music, including folk, jazz, big band, pop, and electronica; and WHEREAS, During her time on The Voice, Ms. Kirby impressed the judges and the audience alike with her powerhouse renditions of such pop classics as "The Letter," "Gimme Shelter," "Higher Love," "I Feel the Earth Move," "Edge of Seventeen," and "We Don't Need Another Hero"; and WHEREAS, Hannah Kirby has won the hearts of millions of television viewers across the nation, and she stands on the threshold of what will surely be a bright and rewarding future; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 84th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Hannah Kirby on her selection as a top eight finalist on The Voice and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Kirby as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
